Day 6 – Monday, June 20

We had nothing scheduled this morning, so we had a little time to shop and decided to venture out alone.  Rouslan dropped us off at a department store, and we planned to take a bus back to his apt. when we finished because after all, how hard could that be?  We were supposed to be back by noon so we could meet Rouslan and Pavel (construction supervisor) at the church site.  We got on the right bus, but things look very different viewed from a bus and it became apparent that we didn’t know which stop to get off at.  Brilliantly, we didn’t know the name of the street we wanted either.  Didn’t matter, we don’t speak much Russian.  Bob saved the day when he looked out the door at one bus stop, and saw the church construction site!  We jumped off the bus and, having worked up an appetite wondering where we going to end up, we stopped in a delightful little bakery, then nonchalantly called Pastor Katya to say we were already at the construction site and they could just meet us there!  There are several videos below that provide a complete tour of the church building.

We returned to Katya and Rouslan’s apt. for a short rest before going to a Bible study for young adults in a nearby village.  This is a new housing development which is sponsored by the government for young families.  These are individual or duplex houses with a large yard in the back, a local daycare center, grocery store, etc.  There are eligibility requirements to get a house here, and this program enables young families, who probably couldn’t afford the high cost of an apartment close to the city, to own a home. We enjoyed singing, studied and discussed a lesson from Mark, chapter 2, prayed together, then had a delicious meal.
